
Maybe a red herring, but it's probably the only unusual thing about my system - if Steam is a problem then it would be nice to have an option to exclude Steam's folder, or work with Valve (Steam's developer) to make it play nice with games explorer. I wonder what the cause of this is? The games explorer isn't very good at detecting games from Steam (a games download service) and I wonder whether the encryption that Steam is using is slowing things down.

During this time CPU load on my Q6600 is circa 25%. I installed Windows 7 Home Premium 圆4 at the weekend, and just like with Vista HP x86 (my previous OS), the games explorer is slow to load (10-20 seconds of blank window before its contents are displayed).
